Obituary of James Francis Long

James “Jim” Francis Long, age 80, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 30, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, only a few days before his 81st birthday.

Jim was born on October 4, 1942, in the Bronx, New York City, New York to Daniel William Long and Mary Margaret Craig.

Jim is survived by his wife, Irmtraud “Emy”; son, James (Jill); daughter, Patricia (Mark). He leaves behind his sisters, Kathleen (Jose); Jeanie (Tony); and brother Aaron (Jeanine). He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Mary; sister Peggy and brothers Danny, Otto and Joey.

Jim’s love extended beyond his immediate family, as he delighted in being “Opa” to his three grandchildren, Alexandria, Daniel, and Zachary. They brought him immeasurable joy, and he truly treasured every moment spent with them.

Jim entered the Army in 1960 and proudly served his country in the United States Army for 30 years, before being honorably discharged. On his first tour in Germany, he met Emy and they were married in February 1964 and had two wonderful children. He spent his last nine years of service with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Jim spent several tours in the Vietnam conflict and was highly decorated for his heroism. He was a true patriot and honored to serve his country and everything it stands for.

Jim was a great husband, loving father, proud Opa, uncle and good friend. He will truly be missed.
