Obituary of Phyllis Burg

 

Phyllis Carolyn Burg passed peacefully on July 2, 2023, with her husband Les and daughter Carolyn by her side, at her home in Golden, Colorado at the age of 84 (officially 85 if you count leap days).

 

Phyllis Carolyn White was born on July 13, 1938 in Brinkley, Arkansa to Maynard and Nellie White. Her grandparents, Glover and Flossie White, raised her as she attended El Dorado High School where she was well known as one of the fastest runner. Her reputation of out running the boys has been remembered at many high school class reunions. Growing up she participated in Girl Scouts and a variety of sports. She graduated from El Dorado High School with lifelong friends.

 

After high school, Phyllis married James C. Johnson Sr. and had two sons, James Johnson and Phillip Johnson, before moving to Golden, Colorado in 1968.  In Colorado, Phyllis attended Red Rocks Community College, graduating with an Associates degree in Business. Phyllis continued to live in Golden working at Sears, it is here she met her loving husband Leslie C. Burg. The two married April 16, 1976, and were blessed with twins Carolyn and Carl Burg a few years later. The entire family remained in the close surrounding area wishing to be close to Phyllis and Les throughout their lives. 

 

Phyllis spent her time working for several years at Jefferson County Public Schools, COBE Laboratories, and Philnor Drug. She enjoyed taking care of her clematis and rose bushes in her backyard. With her husband Les, she was active in the Model T Club and enjoyed going to meetings. Her favorite car was her maroon 1940 Ford Convertible. Other of her favorite pastimes included drinking Coke on the patio with her family, playing with her grandchildren, and going to lunch with her best friends. You could always find Phyllis on the move, typically attending important milestones in her family's life. Those close to her always remember her poise, delicious cooking, and her making sure her lipstick was on. 

 

Phyllis is survived by her Husband Leslie C Burg and all of her children and their spouses, James Johnson Jr., (Tracy Johnson), Phillip Johnson, (Monica Johnson), Carolyn Burg, (Joseph McReynolds), and Carl Burg (Bobbi Burg). Her grandchildren Tara Lang, (Lee Lang), Kayli Johnson, KiAundra Staack, and Austin McReynolds and great grandson Tate Lang had the blessing of spending time with their beloved Mimi prior to her passing. 

 

No memorial service or funeral is planned. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to a childrens’ charity of your choice.
