Born in Minnesota to Charles and Bernice Petter, Jackie was the oldest of her siblings, Mary Lou and Charles, Jr. Jackie came to Colorado when she was 17 to study art at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. She changed her course of study to geology where she met her husband, William McFarland. They married in 1947 and raised four daughters- Penney (Jim McDermott), Clare (Dale Compton), Jan (Vernon McFarland -Brown) and Jill (the twins) in Lakewood, CO.
Jackie is survived by her daughters, sons-in-law, eight grandchildren and their spouses, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephew. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, sister Mary Lou, brother Chuck, brother-in-law Oscar Schmunk and her grandson Bill McDermott.
Mom was the true definition of what it is meant to be artist- Creative, curious and accomplished. She loved Colorado and New Mexico and spent many happy hours recording this love in her art. She was a renowned artist, mentor and teacher who touched many lives throughout her 96 years.
She was the mother who wanted nothing more than for her daughters to be happy and complete. She loved Dad and she loved her cat, Fang. She was a proud GMA and GGMA. She lived a long and full life surrounded by her family.
Jackie was respected and loved by all those who knew her.
The following are the kind words her friends and family are using to describe her- Ambitious, benevolent, colorful, extraordinary, wonderful, cheerful, vibrant, true friend, sweetest and contagious smile, wise, a shining light, mentor, compassionate, welcoming, and encourager.
She will be greatly missed by all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Cat Care Society.
