Obituary of Geneva Marie Fresquez
Geneva was born on June 13, 1934 to Abel Cruz and Rosie Padilla in Fort Morgan, Colorado where she spent the early years of her life. When she was 8 years old, her father moved the Family to Denver in pursuit of a job in the mining industry. They later moved to Brighton, Colorado where they settled in a small basement apartment and called it home. It would be in Brighton where she would meet the love of her life Ferman Maestas. Hopelessly in love, they married and had seven children: Sandra, Ferman Jr., Danny, Robert, Edward, Julie, and Terri. They remained happily married while raising their children for 22 years until tragedy struck. An accident claimed the life of her beloved husband Ferman.
For 11 years following the death of Ferman, Geneva worked hard in retail and the restaurant business while raising her children as only a strong woman can do. Through friends of the family, she met Alex Fresquez. They married in 1983. Alex faithfully and along her side assisted her in the upbringing of the younger children while advising the older ones. They made a good team caring for the home. It was not long before they received God’s blessings as they welcomed eight grandchildren: Stacy, Melissa, Alison, D.J., Marlena, Sofia, Mariah, Breanna, and one step granddaughter Brodie. Years later, they would once again be blessed as they welcomed seven great grandchildren: Orlando, Ian, Bella, Austin, Natalie, Leona, and Ariana, all of whom were the apple of her eye. Sadly, on July 11, 2015 Alex passed away once again leaving Geneva alone.
On June 6, 2023 Geneva was walked to the gates of heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by her three wonderful and caring daughters. She is preceded in death by her parents, Brother Joe, her husband Ferman, and her second husband Alex; as well as other family members and close friends.
She is survived by her sister Susie Cardenas and her children: Sandra, Ferman Jr. (Helen), Danny (Helen), Robert (Bernadette), Edward (Jamie), Julie (Victor), Terri (Marco), as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Geneva will be deeply and dearly missed by all who love her.
A Rosary and Mass will be held at 10:15am, Monday, June 19, 2023 at St Augustine Catholic Church, 178 S. 6th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado 80601.
Private Interment will take place at another time.
