Obituary of SMSgt Leon Hunt United States Air Force (Ret.)
Leon “Lee” Hunt was born on May 14, 1930 in Pembroke, North Carolina to Sherman Hunt and Mable (Lowery) Hunt. Leon passed away on May 23, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Leon was a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country from March 1, 1954 up until retirement on September 1, 1977. Leon and Margaret were wed during Leon’s military career on May 31, 1958 at the Shilling Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas. He finished his working career at the Colorado Springs Deaf & Blind School as HVAC and building maintenance. Leon also went on to become a council member of the Knights of Columbus and was also part of The Retired Enlisted Association. Lee was proud of his Native American roots and his association with the Lumbee Tribe in North Carolina.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 6 brothers. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret “Marty” Hunt, children; Rebecca (Mike) Kistler, Daniel (Shawn) Hunt, Regina Casey, Linda (Mario) Burciago, Michael (Jayne) Hunt, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings; Homer (Faye) Hunt, Thomas Hunt, Alton (Judy) Hunt, Eugene (Lynn) Hunt, and Candace (Kenny) Hardy.
A Catholic Rosary will take place for Leon on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:30AM with a catholic mass immediately following at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, 11020 Teachout Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80908. A graveside service with military honors will take place that following Monday, June 14, 2021 at 1:00PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80925.
