Obituary of Bertram Stuart Mackiernan, Jr.

Bertram “Bert” Mackiernan age 83, of Englewood, Colorado died October 28, 2019 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado. Born in Boston, MA, Bert lived in Dorchester MA, Plymouth, MA and the island of Nantucket, MA for much of his life before most recently moving to Denver, Colorado to be close with his family. Bert served in the U.S. Army – 4th Artillery Division in Ft. Devens, MA as a truck mechanic from 1959-1963 holding the rank of Specialist E-4. After honorable discharge from the US Army, Bert spent his life working as an auto mechanic and truck driver. He owned Bert’s Garage in Plymouth, MA from 1972-1986. He then worked as a tow truck driver, auto transport driver, and a propane gas delivery driver in Nantucket, MA.

Bert’s interests always surrounded classic cars and trucks. He spent time in his younger years as an amateur open wheel race car owner, racing in amateur events in New England he also spent time restoring classic trucks and enjoyed his friends in area classic car clubs. Bert was a firm believer in the entrepreneurial spirit of America, and the democratic process, once making a short run for the office of Town Selectman in Plymouth, MA. Community service was also important to Bert, he volunteered for many church organizations and The Salvation Army.

Bertram is survived by his son and daughter in law, William & Melissa Mackiernan of Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, and son David Mackiernan of Tennessee and three sisters Sally Mackiernan of Boston, MA, Elizabeth Miel of Boston, MA and Katie Hilliard of Halifax, MA. Bert also leaves eight grandchildren.
