Delores E. Birkelo

DELORES ELAINE BENSEN BIRKELO WAS BORN ON SEPTEMBER 27, 1928 TO BEN AND HAZEL BENSEN OF ERSKINE, MINNESOTA. SHE GRADUATED ERSKINE H.S. IN 1946 AND WAS EMPLOYED IN THE BUSINESS OFFICE OF THE DAKOTA CLINIC, FARGO, ND. UNTIL HER MARRIAGE TO ALDEN BIRKELO OF MAYVILLE, N.D. ON JUNE 1, 1952.

DELORES WAS SUPPORTIVE OF HER HUSBAND DURING HIS CAREER IN THE U.S. AIR FORCE. SHE WAS ALWAYS ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH, WHEREVER THE AIR FORCE TOOK THEM. FOR SEVERAL YEARS SHE ASSISTED IN WRITING CURRICULUM FOR SUMMER VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS. SHE TAUGHT AND TRAINED TEACHERS FOR THE BETHEL BIBLE SERIES FOR MANY YEARS. DELORES ESPECIALLY ENJOYED SHARING SCRIPTURE WITH OTHERS THROUGH THE BIBLE STUDIES SHE TAUGHT IN HER HOME AND AT HER CHURCH. SHE SERVED ON THE STAFF OF FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AS DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP AND WOMENS MINISTRIES UNTIL HER RETIREMENT IN 1987. SHE ALSO SERVED AS AN ELDER AND WAS ACTIVE IN THE CHRISTIAN HEIRS AND AMBASSADORS SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES.

DELORES WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND, HER PARENTS, TWO OF HER CHILDREN RICHARD AND DAVID, FOUR BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY TWO OF HER SONS, MALCOLM (LESLIE) AND MARK (ANNE), NINE GRANDCHILDREN AND FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO DEACONS FUND AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OR THE DALE HOUSE PROJECT AT 24 EAST DALE STREET, COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.

SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN COLORADO SPRINGS ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2020 AT 10:30 AM.
